The Old Harbour Road CDC is an umbrella organization, which facilitates community development in McCook Pen, High House, Hartlands, Sydenham Villa, Innswood, Sydenham Gardens, Magil Palm, and White Water Meadows.

Community Hurricane Preparedness
Today is June 1 2009 which marks the official beginning of the hurricane season in the Caribbean. So far there has been one tropical storm that was formed in the Atlantic and was not a threat to any land mass before dissipating.

As a reminder I am sending out the list of items that each community should prepare and hand over to the chairman of the CDC for registration at the PDC and the Disaster Preparedness Committee of Spanish Town.

1. List of elderly, shut-ins, physically and mentally challenge/ tel #s
2. Formation of Disaster Mitigation Committee (DMT) each community.
3. List of persons who own or operate heavy duty equipment 4x4 etc.
4. A first aid kit which can be home made
5. List of corner shops who can supply food in the event of cut off
6. Identify drains to be cleaned
7. Identify areas prone to flooding and land slides
8. Identify buildings to be used as temporary shelter
9. Know designated shelters and contact number for manager.

With regards to the flooding of homes in the area by the water from Old Harbour road one measure that could be used on a temporary basis is the use of sand bags to try and divert the water from the houses into the drains or the roads.

Please let me have your feedback soonest so i may take them the next meeting scheduled for Saturday June 6, 2008.

There is also the ever present lack of money by the state agencies to do anything therefore we the residents must do what we can to mitigate against the effects of these hurricanes which is now a feature of our lives at this time of the year.

Project development and proposal writing training session

Project development and proposal writing training session

To: CDC members


Please be advised that a training session is slated for Saturday Feb. 28, 20009. The main objectives is to enhance the leadership capacity of CBOs and CDCs and to strengthen the project proposal writing ability of CDC leaders.

Training content: Project development and proposal writing


Venue: SDC complex Spanish Town
Time : 9:00am -4:30pm


There will be a offset to traveling expenses.
Lunch and refreshment will be provided, please make every effort to have at least one member of each community represented at this meeting.

 
Best community competition judging
This serves to advise that Mr. Clive Rowe the treasurer for the OHCDC will be the contact person and coordinator for the CDC during the Judging of the communities.
Mr. Rowe was present during the last judging and will have a few pointers to give to the communities that are entering.

I would also like to mention that due to work commitments I will not be available for the Judging but I may be contacted
via email or by text messages to 831-0478.

Let us now pool our efforts and at least aim for one of the sectional award, and who knows if we can pull of the two million then to God be the glory.
