The White Water Meadows community is a quiet neighbourhood situated on the outskirts of Spanish Town, just off the Hartlands main road. Nestled on ninety-nine (99) acres of land, formally a sugar cane estate, the community has just over 730 detached two (2) bedroom houses on lots ranging in sizes from 3,600 to 8,000 square feet.
The community has a number of useful amenities, namely, a well developed and maintained community website www.whitewatermeadows.org.jm, a quarterly Newsletter, “Drippings”, a security post at the entrance of the community which is in need of refurbishing, a football field (undeveloped) as well as a community park (still under-development).
The community has an active Association, The White Water Meadows Citizens Association, which is a registered company with the Registrar of Companies of Jamaica. The Executive Committee of the Association consists of a President and two Vice Presidents, a Secretary and an assistant, a Treasurer and an assistant, a Public Relations Officer and an assistant. In addition there are four standing committees/sub-committees,
• Public safety and Services – to follow the progress of public and civic affairs as they affect the welfare of the community, example, security and public health concerns
• Sports and Recreation Committee
• Development Control – to promote the orderly development of the community
• Public Relations and Fundraising
The community is seeking to revive its once vibrant and active Youth Club. To achieve this objective, the community has sought to utilize the skills of the youth in various activities such as the annual children’s treat, annual sports day, jerk Fridays, artistic designs for various promotional activities.
We have from time to time extended a helping hand to the Spanish Town Community through assistance rendered to the Mustard Seed’s “Dare to Care Children’s Home”. It is the intention of the community to adopt the Children’s home in the near future.

Sports
& Youth Activities
|
Sporting and Youth oriented activities
forms a central part of the community’s development:
Since
2006 we have undertaken to plan and execute healthy lifestyle activities such
as organizing sport days and a football fiesta. This has allowed us to foster a more
cohesive community spirit and togetherness at the same time encouraging
socialization among citizens as well as strengthen the bonds of friendship
among residents.
During
our most recently held Sports Day,
October 2007 we also sought to make the youth aware of Jamaica’s history through the promotion of our national
heroes. This was done by dividing the
community into houses which were named after National Heroes (Nanny, Sam
Sharpe, Bogle, and Garvey). Sporting events included, football and netball
competitions, athletics, tug-a-war, egg & spoon races among other
activities.
Winners
were rewarded with certificates.
Over
the years events have been promoted via the internet, banners, flyers, aerial
announcements, community meetings. The
community also sought corporate & community sponsorship for particular event
as well as utilizing professionals from the community to administer the games.
Football Fiesta, March 2008:
The community hosted a Football Fiesta for all the football Clubs within the
CDC; namely, the communities of White Water Meadows, Magil Palm, Syndham
Villa, Innswood Village, Old Harbour Road, St. Johns’ Road.
The
purpose of this activity is to use sports as a tool to harness the energies
of the youth and the synergies of the neighbouring communities to promote an
annual single competition within the CDC.
Promotion took the form of seeking the assistance of the Presidents of
the various communities and obtained their approval.
