Current needs Currently we have eight (8) caregivers that are trained practical nurses: they received further training from the Center for HIV/AIDS Research, Education and Services (CHARES), in caring fro children with HIV/AIDS. However, with the rapid development in HIV/AIDS worldwide, there is a great need for ongoing training of our caregivers so as to provide the best care possible for our children. Some other immediate needs are: 1)Constant supply of anti-retroviral drug. In order for us to receive these drugs we would have to get a permit from the Ministry of Health and as such we will be require the following information from you: Name of Drugs, # of Units, quantity in each unit, expiry dates, Type (liquid, powder, tablet etc), strength, value of drug. 2)Diet Plan - Suggestions re meals and/or supplements for HIV + children 3)Monitoring - Assistance in monitoring children once anti-retroviral drugs are administered -Assistance in sustaining care for the children -Information on the side effects of the anti-retroviral Drugs. 4)Training - Literature that can assist with training in administering anti-retroviral drugs as well as the general care for children with HIV/AIDS. - Suggestions of other training that would be beneficial to our home 5)Volunteers -HIV/AIDS Specialists, Pediatrician, Nurses etc 6)Cash Donations and a motor vehicle 7)See below DARE TO CARE LIST OF DRUGS NEEDED Anti-retroviral Drugs • Retrovir (AZT or ZDV – zidovudine • Epivir (Lamivudine or 3TC) • Combivir (AZT plus 3TC) • Abacavir (Ziagen) • Nevirapine (Viramune) • Videx (DDI) • Zerit (Stavudine) Other Drugs (for opportunistic Infections) • Augmentin (amoxycillin + clavulanate potassium • Amoxil (amoxycillin) • Flagcyl • Klaricid Paediatric Suspension • Lamisil • Nizoral Cream • Nizoral Shampoo • Nizoral Suspension • Daktarin (miconazol) Oral Gel • Cotrimoxazcle (Bactrim) • Medicines for coughs, Cold, Allergies & Fevers • Children Multi-Vitamins • Children’s Vitamin C (The above mentioned drugs should be in powder or liquid form as the children have a problem swallowing tablets. Drugs needed for 23 children ages from 1 – 13). |
